Our story

No marketing – just how it really was.

Hi, we're Felix and Merle – and the little person who turned our lives completely upside down is Josefine. She was born on 25 May 2026, our first child. Since then we've been more tired, happier, and richer by one very cute pout. HeyFini wasn't designed on a drawing board – it came about between the changing table, the baby carrier and a great deal of coffee. 💛

The classic scene at our place went like this: it's half past three at night. Josefine squeaks, Felix stumbles out of bed, fetches her and lays her in Merle's arms to nurse. “Which side is next?” – short silence – “…no idea.” So we guessed, night after night. In exactly one of those moments we both thought: you should be able to see that at a glance, without a note, without thinking, without tapping through three menus.

Before that we had honestly tried everything. First the Notes app – annoying when the phone was in the other room again (so, basically always). Then two different baby apps, both somehow overloaded, no nice widget, no “Hey Siri, start breastfeeding”, and three taps for every little thing. Nothing felt the way we wanted it to.

At some point Merle put it in a nutshell: “There ought to be an app that simply does what you need – and nothing else.” That's where the idea was born. Building it was then my job – Felix. My day job is running an IT company (SOFTAGE), so programming is nothing new to me – an iPhone app of my own very much was. It became my project for the nights when nobody was sleeping anyway. And Merle is the good soul and the source of ideas behind almost every feature; after all, she knows best what really counts day to day.

The name is Merle's idea, too. It was supposed to be sweet, memorable – and a tiny bit cheeky. “Fini” is our nickname for Josefine, and the “Hey” in front fits perfectly: it's exactly the question we ask ourselves what feels like a hundred times a day – “Hey Fini, what do you need right now?”

Three things mattered most to us. First: fast instead of overloaded – one glance, one piece of information, which side is next and when the last feed was (Merle's heartfelt wish), plus proper statistics at last (mine). Second: our daughter's data belongs to us, not to a corporation – it stays in your iCloud, without tracking and without ads, and Josefine should one day decide for herself what is out there about her online. And third: everything from real life – the concise “Which side?”, the import of old data and the “What should she wear?” guide all grew out of our own helpless moments; we really struggled with dressing her at the beginning. Our guiding principle has stayed the same to this day: less thinking, more time for the baby.

HeyFini is a labour of love alongside the day job – built during nursing breaks and after bedtime. If the app makes your days a little easier, it has already been worth it for us. And if you'd like to buy us a coffee for the next sleepless night – we certainly won't say no. ☕
