What your baby is learning right now

HeyFini shows what most babies your baby's age can do right now, how you can tell, and what to play. No leap calendar, no date pressure. The whole area is free.

In short: Around 100 milestones from 2 to 24 months in four areas, with an explanation of how to spot them. For sitting, crawling and walking HeyFini shows the WHO windows as bars instead of due dates. The app deliberately does not predict developmental leaps, because that calendar has no backing. The area is free, only the play ideas belong to Pro.

HeyFini development: the WHO windows for sitting, crawling and walking as bars, below the stage “At 6 months” with ticked milestones

Around 100 milestones in eight stages

From 2 to 24 months HeyFini sorts the milestones into stages and four areas: together, language, thinking, movement. Each one says how you can tell in everyday life: “Hands over the face, away again, and it beams” or “The spoon falls off the high chair and the eyes go down.” The list comes from the CDC program “Learn the Signs. Act Early.” from 2022 and only names things at least three out of four babies show at that age.

Tick off with date and photo. The moment lands in the milestone album, in Photos and in the report for the pediatrician. And it counts towards your achievements.

The windows for sitting, crawling and walking

For gross motor skills there are no due dates, only windows: in 2006 the WHO measured in six countries when babies sit without support, pull up, crawl, cruise along furniture, stand alone and walk alone. Sitting between 4 and 9 months, crawling between 5 and 13, walking alone between 8 and 18. HeyFini shows these windows as wide bars with your baby's age line.

And yes: about one baby in 25 never crawls and still walks on time. The app says exactly that.

Why HeyFini does not predict developmental leaps

The well-known calendar of fixed leap weeks has no scientific backing. An independent replication of the study did not find the weeks. So HeyFini has no leap dates and no notification “Leap 5 starts tomorrow”. What it has are phases that are well documented: in the first six weeks babies cry around two hours a day on average, by three months much less. And after a new movement, such as rolling or crawling, many babies sleep less settled for a few weeks.

That is exactly what HeyFini tells you when the time comes. With a source, without a date, without pressure.

Play ideas and the night when nothing helps

For every stage and area there are small play ideas for everyday life: peek-a-boo with a cloth, two cups to clatter, a push-along toy to get going. The first idea is free, all of them belong to HeyFini Pro.

For the moment when nothing helps any more there is a page with three sentences: This is not your fault. Put the baby down safely and step out for a moment. Shaking is never okay. Plus a button to the baby monitor and one to the emergency number. This page is always free, you find it in the parent station and in the Development area.

Prepare the visit

When a check-up is coming, HeyFini shows beforehand what the doctor looks at and, if you like, builds the report since the last check-up: weight, height, vaccinations, your notes. Two days before, the app reminds you. If several milestones are missing at the end of a stage, that is the moment to raise them.

What HeyFini is not

Not a medical device and not a diagnosis. If your baby was born early, count from the due date, not the birthday. And if your baby loses something it could already do, please see the pediatrician soon. HeyFini helps you look, the doctor decides.

Frequently asked questions

Does HeyFini show developmental leaps?

No, deliberately not. The calendar of fixed leap weeks has no backing. Instead HeyFini shows milestones in stages, the WHO windows for sitting, crawling and walking, and phases that really are well documented, such as the crying of the first months.

Where do the milestones come from?

From the CDC program “Learn the Signs. Act Early.” from 2022, which only names things at least 75 percent of babies show at that age. HeyFini translated them freely; the CDC has not reviewed this translation and does not endorse HeyFini.

My baby does not crawl. Is that bad?

Usually not. The WHO window for crawling runs from a good 5 to over 13 months, and about one baby in 25 never crawls and still walks. Raise it at the next check-up if you are unsure.

Is the Development area free?

Yes. Milestones, windows, phases, the night page and visit preparation are free. Only the full set of play ideas belongs to HeyFini Pro, the first idea per milestone is always visible.

What if points are missing at the end of a stage?

Take the list to the next check-up, then the conversation gets concrete. If your baby loses something it could already do, please go soon.
